I wonder if governments will look up
at the blue skies
At the clean rivers and lakes and stars,
and for once look beyond profits,
investments and balance sheets
I wonder if they’ll look at the
pollution levels plummeting
and feel a new bud of possibilities
sprouting inside of them
Maybe they’ll realise that without
all the bling, our planet glows
I wonder if they’ll finally realise how
good our lives can be
How brittle we are as a species, how vulnerable,
how endangered
I wonder if the politics of hate will cease,
maybe the routes
of all our prayers will merge
and call out to the same god
Maybe when we finally unlock our doors
and walk out
All our greed and prejudice
would have melted away
And all that’s left is love, gratitude,
respect and kindness
But I dream
